insight meditation programs

The downtown meditation community is comprised of individuals who
come together to practice insight meditation, also known as mindfulness
meditation. The programs, held for the most part in the downtown
area of Manhattan, are led by Peter Doobinin and other teachers.
These classes, courses, workshops and retreats offer an opportunity
to learn and develop meditation practice. It is our vision to provide
an environment where men and women are able to cultivate their ability
to live mindfully, with ease and peace, within the context of contemporary
urban life. In being part of a supportive community, a sangha, of
likeminded individuals, we are able to more skillfully navigate
the complex terrain of city life and share in the joy of living.

Insight meditation is a practice that enables us to awaken, to live
in the present moment and develop a greater understanding of our
relationship to our experience. Practicing insight meditation, we
gradually learn to train the mind, to let go of anger and aversion,
negativity, fear, stress, dissatisfaction. We learn, by coming to
know intimately the present moment, to open the heart, to live with
love, kindness, compassion, joy and serenity.
